Wharton on U.S. Route 25 in Henderson County, North Carolina, suddenly veered to the left across the center line of the highway and smashed head-on into a heavily laden tractor-trailer going in the opposite direction. His wife of but nineteen days, Mrs. Helen Duffy Wharton, was a passenger in the front seat of the Pontiac and died some ten hours...
