The appellee ocean carriers brought these actions in admiralty to recover the freight charges on goods shipped by appellants Bartlett-Collins Co. (hereinafter BC) and Bartlett-Collins International, C.A. (hereinafter BCI). At pretrial, the court suggested referral of the cases to a Special Master, and the parties subsequently agreed.
