Tucked away high in the Cascade Mountains, 16 miles from CleElum, lies the justly famous mining town of Liberty, founded in the 1880's by gold miners who came West hoping to get rich. Liberty was earlier known as Meaghersville and Placerville, and there is some suggestion in the evidence that the town's location was actually moved about one-half mile in the early days.
