SANDERS, Justice.

The Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury indicted Horace Latigue for negligent homicide as defined by LSA-R.S. 14:32. The indictment charged that Latigue killed Betty Jane Reed by the criminally negligent operation of a motor vehicle and, more specifically, by driving at an excessive and illegal rate of speed, by failing to keep a proper look-out, and by driving the vehicle off the highway into a ditch. After trial, the jury returned a verdict of guilty....
