The parties were married in 1943 and separated in 1964. In January, 1965, Mrs. Riegler obtained a decree awarding her separate maintenance and the custody of the couple's five daughters, the oldest of whom was then 18. In March, 1966, Mrs. Riegler filed suit for an absolute divorce on the ground of personal indignities.
