HUTCHESON, Circuit Judge:

Appellant was convicted of mailing to President Johnson a letter threatening "to take the life of and to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States", in violation of 18 U.S.C. Sec. 871. It was admitted that appellant wrote and mailed the letter, promising to "shoot the president out of the Whitehouse three or four times a year, with a continuing and wearying monotony." His claim of insanity provoked the only controversy....
