Joel Alexander, defendant in error, filed in the Corporation Court of the City of Norfolk a petition for a writ of habeas corpus ad subjiciendum in which he alleged that he was being unlawfully detained by C. C. Peyton, Superintendent of the Virginia State Penitentiary.
