On July 28, 1963, L. Wilson York and sixty-one others were arrested in the City of Danville on separate warrants charging each with parading without a permit in violation of a city ordinance. Convicted in the Municipal Court, they appealed to the Corporation Court where, by consent, the cases were consolidated, jury trials were waived, and the defendants were tried by the court.
