On July 13, 1962, petitioner (Mefford) was found guilty in the Circuit Court for Harford County by Judge Day and Judge Harlan,1 sitting without a jury, of murder in the first degree, robbery and robbery with a deadly weapon, and thereafter was sentenced to death for the murder and to imprisonment on the robbery counts.
