The tragical background of this litigation occurred when a privately owned Piper Comanche airplane fell into San Francisco Bay; all three of the occupants of the plane were killed. The airplane was piloted by Wilbur M. Hamren, and the other two victims were Edward W. Doyle, Jr. and Oliver J. Bell.
