Vaught, the plaintiffs, brought this action against Sam Finley, Inc., and Holston River Quarry, Inc., the defendants, seeking to recover damages allegedly caused to the plaintiffs' farm by "smoke, soot, dust, dirt, limestone, oil and other waste substances" emitted from a quarry and rock crushing plant operated by Holston and a bituminous concrete plant operated by Finley.
