This case involves the sinking of two barges, the MBL 217 and the IBL 83, with an attendant loss of cargo, in the Mississippi River a short distance north of Vicksburg, Mississippi, at approximately Mile 437. The sinking occurred on March 26, 1963. The two barges were part of a tow of ten barges being pushed up river by the M/V Superior. The MBL 217 was owned by A. L.
