Howard Leo White was found to be an indigent by the superior court, and was assigned counsel to defend him in a criminal proceeding. During preparation of the defense, assigned counsel obtained the services of a medical doctor to examine White, and testify at the trial as an expert concerning chronic alcoholism, the essence of White's defense.
