Defendant Janssen appeals from the judgment of conviction entered after a jury found him guilty of violation of subdivision (b) of section 4530 of the Penal Code (escape).

Subsequent to a burglary conviction and commitment in 1961 Janssen was assigned to Clear Creek prison camp. On June 13, 1964, he was reported missing and later on that date was apprehended while allegedly committing a burglary. At the trial Janssen acted as his own counsel and...
