On February 1, 1962, plaintiff filed this action against the City and County of San Francisco (hereafter referred to as City) for the conversion of two granite sculptures. The City alleged that his action was barred by the statute of limitations (Code Civ. Proc., §§ 335, 338) as the conversion occurred in 1942 when the City acquired the sculptures.
