This appeal concerns the opposing claims of Bryant and Long, each of whom had under state statute made homestead entry of the same 35-acre tract of land. Subsequent to administrative hearing, the Register of the State Land Office determined the contest in favor of Long and rejected Bryant's claim. Bryant appealed the Register's decision to the district court of Calcasieu Parish, which had jurisdiction as the parish in which the contested lands are situated...
