Defendant was charged and convicted of the offense of robbery in the first degree under the Habitual Criminal Act and the court assessed defendant's punishment at twelve years' imprisonment in the state penitentiary. See §§ 560.120, 560.135, 556.280 and 556.290 RSMo 1959, V.A.M.S.
