The plaintiff, a longshoreman, one of a gang of eight, was engaged in loading a cargo of truck bodies in the 'tween deck area of The S.S. STEEL WORKER, owned and operated by Isthmian Lines, Inc. The truck bodies were crated in wooden frames measuring between 30 and 35 feet in length, eight feet in width, and four to four and one-half feet in height. To lift them from the pier into the hold, a heavy wire sling was placed under each end...
