Plaintiff's evidence tends to show the following facts:

About 8:00 p. m. on 12 January 1961 he was driving a tractor-trailer unit of his employer, Atlantic States Motor Lines, loaded with 16,000 pounds of freight, at a speed of 45 to 50 miles an hour, north on U.
