November 30, 1958, at 8:30 p.m., Clyde Olson, accompanied by Charles A. McCarver, was driving McCarver's Ford automobile in a southerly direction on highway No. 395, eight miles south of Lind, Washington. The automobile went out of control, due to an unforeseen icy condition of the highway, and came to rest on its side on the east shoulder of the highway, protruding onto the pavement about eighteen inches.
