After a trial before a judge of the criminal court of Cook County, the defendant, Bishop Jeffries, was convicted of the offenses of rape and assault with intent to commit robbery. He was sentenced to the penitentiary for fifteen years on the rape charge, and a concurrent sentence of not less than five nor more than ten years was imposed...
