By statute effective September 1, 1957, the provisions of RSA ch. 268 were amended to require that all policies of motor vehicle liability insurance issued or delivered in this state shall provide coverage "for the protection of persons insured thereunder who are legally entitled to recover damages from owners or operators of uninsured motor vehicles . . . and hit-and-run motor vehicles. . . because of bodily injury . . . including death resulting therefrom...
