McCobb retired as an executive of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey in 1944, he became entitled to receive a "retirement allowance" under an "Annuity Plan for the Employees of Standard Oil Company (New Jersey) and its Participating Subsidiaries Effective January 1, 1932" [Annuity Plan]. Briefly, this was a plan covering all employees meeting certain past service requirements, funded by annual contributions of the company...
