Horace E. Williams was charged by indictment with stealing a Chevrolet, 1955 model, motor vehicle. (§ 560.161, Laws 1957, p. 376.) The charge was under the Habitual Criminal Act. § 556.280. Statutory references are to RSMo 1949, and V.A.M.S., unless otherwise indicated. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and the court, proceeding under Laws 1959, S.B. 117, repealing and reenacting said § 556.280, assessed defendant's punishment...
