The petitioner was convicted by a jury of a violation of section 270 of the Penal Code, which makes it a misdemeanor for a father to wilfully fail to provide for his illegitimate child. Imposition of sentence and judgment were suspended and he was placed on probation, the original terms of which included a suspended six months' county jail sentence.
