The barge ME-1 is a riveted steel-deck barge 200 feet in length, 40 feet wide, and 11 feet in depth. In 1956, when she was chartered by libelant to respondent, she was 30 years old. Under the terms of the charter, respondent agreed to redeliver the barge to the owner "in like good order and condition as when delivered (fair wear and tear not avoidable by first-class maintenance excepted), * * *."
