Luckenbach Steamship Company, Inc., the third-party plaintiff and appellant, is a defendant below (with others) in a consolidated action representing 285 suits on behalf of 585 individuals to recover personal injury and death damages resulting from a fire and explosion on December 3, 1956, on a pier in Brooklyn operated by it as an intercoastal water carrier.
