On October 22, 1955, the plaintiff sustained injuries to his back while riding as a regular passenger on a motor bus operated by the Burlington Rapid Transit Company in the city of Burlington. The bus was proceeding north on Elmwood Avenue in rather heavy traffic. The plaintiff was injured when the bus came to a sudden stop.
