On June 27, 1955, the plaintiff Galea was walking down Michigan avenue in Detroit when an awning on an adjoining business building suddenly broke away from its moorings and fell on him, breaking his nose and injuring his head and requiring 10 stitches in the latter and an 8-day stay at the hospital.
