The defendants, Celestine Melerine and James Licciardi, were charged by bill of information with malfeasance in office,1 a crime prohibited by LSA-R.S. 14:134. They were tried, found guilty, and sentenced to serve three months in the parish jail and pay a fine of $500, in default of payment thereof to serve sixty additional days in the parish jail.
