On February 17, 1958, Elizabeth Cole Gooch was arrested in the city of Lynchburg by a police officer of that city for unlawful operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants in violation of the city ordinances. The misdemeanor was committed in the presence of the officer while on duty, and when accused was apprehended, she was informed of the offense with which she was charged.
