On November 15, 1958 Michael David and seven other men were arrested in Ithaca, Tompkins County, charged with the violation of section 973 of the Penal Law, a misdemeanor involving the keeping of gaming and betting establishments. Two days later the defendant David appeared with counsel and demanded a speedy trial. On November 24 the City Court Judge, before whom the case was pending, ordered a jury...
