On July 17, 1931, the petitioner, Mrs. Elizabeth Lilly Schrager-Singer, then a citizen and resident of Rumania, deposited the sum of $2,041.46 in dollars in the Hungarian Discount and Exchange Bank of Budapest, for which the bank issued to her two passbooks showing deposits aggregating that amount.
