Plaintiff, a longshoreman employed by third party defendant Nacirema, a stevedoring contractor, was injured while working in the hold of the S.S. Portmar when he was struck by one of the ship's cargo lights, which had been thrown over the side of the hold by Nacirema's deckman, and had pulled loose from its supporting cable. Plaintiff obtained a judgment for $35,000 against defendant Calmar, owner and operator of the S. S. Portmar, and Calmar...
