Plaintiff instituted this action to recover damages for personal injuries alleged to have been sustained as a result of the derailment of defendant's train upon which she was riding as a passenger. The accident occurred on August 22, 1954, near the town of Lomax in the State of Illinois, some 219 miles west of the city of Chicago, where plaintiff had boarded the train for a journey to Los Angeles.
