This controversy grows out of opposing claims of the United States and the County of Bergen, New Jersey to a fund of $127,000. This large amount in currency was seized by police officers of New Jersey as contraband subject to forfeiture in a raid upon premises occupied by an alleged bookmaker in Bergen County.1 A few days after this state seizure the United States undertook to perfect a lien for taxes upon all property...
