There was evidence which, taken in the light most favorable to plaintiff, tended to show the facts narrated below.

Plaintiff, since 1943, had been treasurer of the Agricultural Stabilization Corporation (ASC) in Duplin County. Its office was in the County Agriculture Building. Since 1952, she had been office manager. ASC paid her a salary of $5,100 per year.
