In March, 1954, Clyde Johnson, who had been a patrolman in the police department of the city of Bellingham continuously since November, 1945, injured his right knee while in the performance of his police duties. Later, the injury was so seriously aggravated that he could not continue his work, and has not since been able to perform the duties of a patrolman.
