CLEARY, Chief Justice.

This is a contract action to recover for architectural services for the construction of a house. The complaint seeks to recover upon a written contract and also upon quantum meruit. The defendant pleaded a general denial and a counterclaim. Trial was by jury and, at the close of the evidence, each party moved for a directed verdict in his favor.
