On August 28, 1956, the plaintiff, Sarah M. Lemon, filed complaint in the superior court of Cook County for separate maintenance against her husband, James G. Lemon, alleging both desertion and cruelty upon the latter's part. The defendant answered by denying the material allegations thereof and then counterclaimed for divorce on the ground of cruelty.
