Defendant entered a plea of guilty to murder of the first degree and, after proceedings pursuant to section 190.1 of the Penal Code, the jury returned a verdict imposing the death penalty. Thereafter, on the trial by jury of his plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, defendant was found sane. Defendant's motion for a new trial was denied and he was sentenced to death. The appeal to this court is automatic....
