This appeal is from judgment for damages for libel. The judgment, entered pursuant to jury verdict, was for $190,000: compensatory damages of $40,000 plus punitive damages of $150,000.

The alleged defamation appeared in a newspaper article. The issues with which we deal in this opinion arise out of three contentions of the appellants. First: that the article was improperly held by the trial judge to be libelous per se; Second: that in any...
