Mr. JUSTICE SCHAEFER delivered the opinion of the court:

In 1944 a jury in the criminal court of Cook County found the defendant, Eddie Kirkrand, guilty of armed robbery and found also that he had theretofore been convicted of burglary. He was sentenced to the penitentiary for life. In accordance with Rule 65-1 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1957, chap. 110, par. 101.65-1,) he applied for and was furnished a transcript of the testimony of the proceedings...
