The plaintiff, Philip Winslow, filed a petition, later amended, in the Circuit Court of Carroll county for a writ of habeas corpus directed to the defendant, Vera Lewis, demanding that she bring Asta Jean Lewis, her niece, a minor child, into court and show cause for the detention of the child. The defendant answered the petition and also set up an affirmative defense denying that it was to the best interests...
