The defendant was charged in an indictment with having murdered Donald Junior Gray, alias Isiah Gaines, on the 14th day of October, 1955. He pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. A jury found defendant guilty of murder of the first degree and fixed the penalty at life imprisonment. The jury further found that the defendant was sane at the time of the offense
