The defendant, a building contractor, entered into a written contract with the plaintiffs to construct for them a residence in Portland, Oregon. Article 19 of the contract provided as follows:

"Any disagreement arising out of this contract or from the breach thereof, shall be submitted to arbitration and this agreement shall be specifically enforceable under the prevailing arbitration law...
