The plaintiff, Mary Hall, sued the defendant, Robert A. Conliff, Jr., alleging in her first amended petition, in part:

"That the defendant, Robert A. Conliff, Jr., and this plaintiff, on the 26th day of October, 1952, made and entered into an oral contract to marry, and said defendant then and there promised and agreed to marry plaintiff on or before the 1st day of January, 1953, at Oklahoma City...
