Between the years 1935 and 1941 the County of Dade acquired title to a large tract of land extending from Baker's Haulover for about a mile and a half north thereof and lying generally between the waters of Biscayne Bay and the Inland Waterway on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. The property was gradually developed as a public park and recreation area to meet the growing needs for this type of public facility in this rapidly growing area...
