MR. PRESIDING JUSTICE McCORMICK delivered the opinion of the court.

The plaintiff sued the defendants for damages caused by his falling on a stairway in a building owned and managed by them. The basis of the plaintiff's action was that the steps of the stairway were negligently maintained by the defendants. In a jury trial the plaintiff recovered the sum of $20,000. The trial court overruled the defendants' motion for judgment notwithstanding
