On November 13, 1951, three separate indictments were returned by the Grand Jury for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, charging wilful and knowing attempts to defeat and evade income taxes owed to the United States, in violation of Title 26 U.S.C.A. § 145(b). One indictment pertained to the individual tax of defendant Harry Koplin and his wife jointly for 1945, and of Mr. Koplin alone for 1946; another indictment pertained...
